NMU's L'Esperance and Parkside's Grooters recognized as GLIAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the second week of the 2022 women's soccer season. Northern Michigan sophomore midfielder Justina L'Esperance received GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades while Parkside senior defender/midfielder Chloe Grooters earned GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Justina L'Esperance, Northern Michigan

Justina L'Esperance continued her impressive start to the season. After scoring a goal in each game last week, she improved on her stats this week. She again added a goal each game, making it four straight games with a tally to start the season. She also added an assist and recorded the game-winning goal against Minnesota Crookston. L'Esperance helped NMU to a 3-3 tie against No. 9 Bemidji State and a 6-0 victory over Minnesota Crookston. She now leads the GLIAC in goals with four and points with nine, all while only taking eight shots this season.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Chloe Grooters, Parkside

Chloe Grooters played in 174 of the 180 minutes in the pair of shutout wins for the Rangers against Concordia-St. Paul and Winona State. The senior from Grand Rapids, Mich. made several stops late in each match that prevented scoring opportunities for the opposing teams. The Rangers are off to a 3-1-0 start, their best start since 2014. Parkside will open GLIAC play on Friday, Sept. 9 as they host Northern Michigan.
