WSU Women and GVSU Men Lead After Day 3 of GLIAC Swimming & Diving Championships

JENISON, Mich. – The Grand Valley State men’s swimming and diving team and the Wayne State Women’s team maintained their lead after the third day of competition at the 2015 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Swimming & Diving Championship, hosted by Grand Valley State and Hillsdale College.

GVSU individual winners included Gianni Ferrero in the 100 yard backstroke after swimming a 47.45 for a pool record. Other winners included Ashland’s Ryan Deemer in the 500 free with a time of 4:36.72, and Wayne States Piotr Jachowicz and Soren Holm in the 100 breaststroke and 200 butterfly. Jachowicz broke a pool record with a time of 53.22 while Holm posted a time of 1:48.61. Wayne State’s Dylan Szegedi took home a first place finish in the one meter dive, scoring 518.15 total points.

The GVSU men’s 800 yard freestyle relay team swam to a first place finish with a time of 6:40.39.

On the women’s side, Wayne State’s Kristina Novichenko was first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:01.56 while teammate Elly Maleski was first in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 55.25. Grand Valley State’s Sam Postmus came in first place in the 500 free with a time of 4:56.30 and Northern Michigan’s Madisen Sechena took home a first place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.96.

The Lakers took home a first place finish in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 7:34.14.

Competition resumes on Saturday morning with the preliminary events at 10:30 a.m.  Saturday's finals will begin at 6:00 p.m.
