GLIAC Teams Shine at D-II Indoor Track & Field Championships

Houston, Texas -- The Grand Valley State University women's team finished second and the Ashland University men's team finished fourth to lead the contingent of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams at the 2009 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Houston, Texas -- The NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field National Championships will be held March 13-14 in Houston, Texas at the Yeoman Field House. The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC)will be well represented. Nine schools including Ashland, Ferris State, Findlay, Grand Valley State, Hillsdale, Northern Michigan, Northwood, Saginaw Valley State and Tiffin will participate with 63 student-athletes competing in 16 events.

University Center, Mich. -- Grand Valley State's Candice Wheat (Pontiac, Mich.) and Ashland's Tara Cooper (Circleville, Ohio) have been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Indoor Track and Field "Athletes of the Year", respectively. Findlay's Raven Clay (Detroit, Mich.) was tabbed with "Freshman of the Year" honors and "Coach of the Year" accolades go to Jerry Baltes of Grand Valley State.
