FERRIS STATE CAPTURES BACK-TO-BACK GLIAC VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIPS
CHAMPIONSHIP -- The Ferris State Bulldogs did not lose a single set in the tournament on their way to capturing the 2015 GLIAC Volleyball Tournament Championship after a 3-0 victory over the No. 2 seeded Findlay Oilers on Sunday at Ewigleben Arena by scores of (25-18, 25-17, 27-25). FSU earned back-to-back conference tournament crowns after a .275 hitting performance on Sunday, while holding Findlay to just .102 on the match. Ferris State's Ayanna Buckley led the Bulldogs with 12 kills with Caroline Heitzman adding 10 kills of her own as FSU committed just 10 errors compared to 24 for the Oilers.
SEMIFINALS -- The top-seeded Ferris State Bulldogs dispatched No. 4 Grand Valley State in straight sets (25-22, 25-22, 25-11) to advance to the GLIAC Tournament Championship match on their home floor inside Ewigleben Arena. The Bulldogs used a .223 hitting percentage with just nine errors, while the Lakers hit a mere .059 and committed 26 miscues. FSU amassed five players with double-digit digs (Vander Meer 15, Sikorski 11, Placek 13, Huntey 15, Dowd 17), while Vander Meer recorded a team-high 12 kills with Caroline Heitzman adding 11. Ferris State will face-off with No. 2 seed Findlay who also earned an impressive three-set victory over No. 3 Hillsdale (25-14, 25-18, 25-16). Oiler sophomore Hannah Tong was a force to be reckoned with in the match as she totaled 17 kills on 27 attacks with just one error for a .593 hitting percentage, while Amanda Winner added 12 kills of her own in a match that lasted just one hour and 10 minutes. The Oilers and the Bulldogs take the court on Sunday, Nov. 22 at 3 PM inside Ewigleben Arena for the 2015 GLIAC Volleyball Tournament Championship.
QUARTERFINALS -- All four top seeds advanced in the 2015 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Volleyball Tournament Quarterfinal round on Wednesday at campus sites. Top-seeded Ferris State swept No. 8 Michigan Tech by scores of 25-17, 25-18, and 25-14 to earn hosting duties this weekend for semifinal and championship matches. The Bulldogs move on to face their rivals No. 4 Grand Valley State who outlasted No. 5 Ashland in four sets (25-22, 25-17, 15-25, 25-21).
