2017 GLIAC VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT CENTRAL

GLIAC -- The Ferris State Bulldogs took down the Michigan Tech Huskies on the road in Houghton on Saturday in the final match of the regular season as the Bulldogs captured the 2017 GLIAC Volleyball Championship. FSU will be the No. 1 seed in next week's GLIAC Volleyball Tournament, which begins on Wednesday (Nov. 15) with quarterfinal action taking place on campus sites.

No. 1 Ferris State, who finished with a GLIAC record of 13-3, will matchup with No. 8 Ashland who went 7-9 on the year. However, the Eagles defeated the Bulldogs in their lone meeting of the year back on October 20th.

Northern Michigan earned the No. 2 seed with a 12-4 league record as the Wildcats are trending upward after knocking off Ferris State on Friday under first-year head coach Mike Lozier. NMU will welcome No. 7 seed Davenport to Marquette this Wednesday as the Panthers (9-7 GLIAC) are coming off a 2-0 season sweep of crosstown rivals Grand Valley State.

The third seed goes to Michigan Tech who completed the conference slate with a 12-4 mark and a shot at the GLIAC title on Saturday before falling to FSU in five sets. The Huskies welcome Tiffin (10-6 GLIAC) to Houghton Wednesday night as the Dragons look to avenge a 3-1 loss to Tech earlier in the year.

The fourth and final quarterfinal match will feature No. 4 Grand Valley State (11-5) awaiting No. 5 Wayne State (10-6). If their first two matches between these two this season provides any indication - this is sure to be a tightly-contested battle with both squads earning a five-set road victory against the other earlier in the year.
