Ferris State Advances, Michigan Tech Falls in NCAA Midwest Region Quarterfinals

NCAA - The 2017 NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Tournament got underway Thursday (Nov. 30) with two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) teams in action at Romeoville, Ill. on the campus of top-seeded Lewis University for the NCAA Midwest Regional. Ferris State advances to face top-seeded Lewis Friday night (Dec. 1) at 8:30 PM.

The No. 4 seed Ferris State Bulldogs defeated No. 5 McKendree by a 3-1 margin in the first round before No. 1 Lewis eliminated No. 8 Michigan Tech. No. 7 Findlay upset No. 2 Hillsdale in a thrilling 5-setter to advance to face No. 3 Rockhurst who elminated No. 6 Bellarmine by a 3-1 decision.

Ferris State hit a scorching .421 in the first set to take the early edge before McKendree knotted up the contest at 1-1 before Ferris State overwhelmed the Bearcats in the final two sets, including a 25-12 decisive victory in the fourth set where FSU hit .312 with just two errors. For the match, the Bulldogs hit .290 and were led by Allyson Cappel's 18 kills, .381 hitting and 10 digs, while Courtney Brewer recorded a dozen kills with Lauren Reminga collecting 22 digs in the win.
