GLIAC Volleyball Players of the Week - Week 10

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the 10th weekend of the regular season. Ferris State University sophomore hitter Allyson Cappel earned GLIAC Volleyball North Division honors, while Tiffin junior outside hitter Amanda Curry captured South Division accolades.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Allyson Cappel, Ferris State

Ferris State University sophomore hitter Allyson Cappel had a huge weekend for the Bulldogs in leading FSU to a pair of GLIAC home sweeps. Cappel averaged 5.67 kills per set along with 2.50 digs while hitting .492 in wins over Saginaw Valley State and Lake Superior State by identical 3-0 scores. She notched 16 kills with a .519 hitting figure, four digs and an ace in Friday's win over SVSU before coming back with 18 kills, 11 digs and two blocks to go with a .472 showing on Saturday versus LSSU. For the weekend, she compiled 34 kills, 15 digs, two blocks and an ace as FSU improved to 19-6 overall and 12-2 in the GLIAC.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Amanda Curry, Tiffin

Tiffin junior outside hitter Amanda Curry had a career weekend when Tiffin needed it most as the Dragons qualified for the GLIAC Tournament for the first time since 2010. Amanda logged 37 kills in Tiffin's three games, averaging 3.70 kills per set. In GLIAC games, she logged 30 kills averaging 4.29 kills per set. Tiffin needed to win two of their final three GLIAC games to earn a postseason bid, and Curry made sure that happened, posting a career high 19 kill in a win against Davenport and 11 more kills in a win over Purdue Northwest. In 74 total attempts, Curry committed only seven attack errors to post a .405 hitting percentage.
