GLIAC Volleyball Players of the Week - Week 1

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the opening weekend of the 2017 volleyball season. Northern Michigan senior middle blocker Kayla Chosa earned GLIAC Volleyball North Division honors, while Ashland University sophomore outside hitter Shelby Woycik captured South Division accolades.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Kayla Chosa, Northern Michigan

Northern Michigan senior middle blocker Kayla Chosa earned All-Tournament Team honors at the Ferris State Invitational as the Wildcats finished the weekend at 3-1. Chosa led the team with 2.81 kills per set with a .396 hitting percentage including 45 kills on 96 attempts with just seven errors committed. Chosa also led NMU with 16 blocks (1.00 b/s).


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Shelby Woycik, Ashland

Ashland University sophomore outside hitter Shelby Woycik was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2017 Quality Inn Ashland University Tournament after leading the Eagles to a 4-0 record to start the season. She finished the tourney with 65 kills (4.64 k/s), a .338 hitting percentage, 36 digs (2.57 d/s) and seven total blocks. In a 3-1 win over Lake Erie on Saturday, Sept. 2, she recorded 26 kills, 12 digs and three block assists.
