Ferris State's Cappel, Grand Valley State's Brower Named GLIAC Volleyball Players of the Week

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the third weekend of the 2017 volleyball season. Ferris State University sophomore hitter Allyson Cappel earned GLIAC Volleyball North Division honors, while Grand Valley State junior middle blocker Staci Brower captured South Division accolades.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Allyson Cappel, Ferris State

Ferris State University sophomore hitter Allyson Cappel had a big weekend as the eighth-ranked Bulldogs won their first two conference outings on the road. Cappel tallied 42 kills with 19 digs, three aces and two blocks in FSU's back-to-back 3-1 road decisions over Purdue Northwest and Davenport. She totaled 21 kills in each match while adding seven digs versus Purdue NW and 12 against the Panthers. Overall, she averaged 5.25 kills and 2.38 digs per set while hitting .333 overall for the weekend.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Staci Brower, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State junior middle blocker Staci Brower registered a .553 hitting percentage (28 kills/2 errors) along with 4.00 kills per set as the Lakers went 2-0 to open conference play last weekend. Brower started off the weekend with a 17-kill performance in a 3-1 win over Ashland while hitting .517 before following it up with 11 kills on 18 attempts with zero errors in a 3-0 sweep of Tiffin where Brower hit .611 on the night.
