BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the eighth weekend of the 2017 volleyball season. Ferris State University senior middle hitter Ayanna Buckley earned GLIAC Volleyball North Division honors, while Ashland sophomore outside hitter Shelby Woycik captured South Division accolades.
NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Ayanna Buckley, Ferris State
Ferris State University senior middle hitter Ayanna Buckley tallied a team-leading 4.38 kills per set and hit an impressive .476 for the weekend as the nationally-ranked Bulldogs split two league outings on the road in Ohio. Buckley notched a season-high 20 kills and hit .425 overall in Friday's close 3-2 setback at Ashland before coming back with a team-high 15 kills and a in a 3-0 sweep at Tiffin on Saturday. For the week, Buckley compiled 35 kills along with eight total blocks, six digs and an ace.
SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Shelby Woycik, Ashland
Ashland sophomore outside hitter Shelby Woycik had a pair of double-doubles in an all-around terrific offensive and defensive weekend to lead the Eagles to a 2-0 record against No. 17 Ferris State and Northwood. Woycik averaged 4.00 kills per set and hit .265, while also averaging 3.75 digs per set during the weekend. Woycik recorded 19 kills (.326), 20 digs and two blocks in the Eagles' five-set win over the nationally-ranked Bulldogs on Friday. She added 13 kills (.189), 10 digs and two blocks in AU's sweep of Northwood on Saturday. The Eagles have now won 23 straight matches at Kates Gymnasium.
