AVCA -- Michigan Tech sophomore setter Laura DeMarchi has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II Women's Player of the Week for a pair of outstanding performances this past week.

Originally hailing from Milan, Italy, DeMarchi was vital as the Huskies came back from 2-0 deficits to win 3-2 both times at Wayne State and Ashland. Against the Warriors, DeMarchi set up 57 assists, recorded 14 digs, and finished with a .375 hitting percentage, and against the Eagles she tallied 62 assists, 16 digs, and a .250 hitting percentage. In total, the reigning GLIAC Setter and Freshman of the Year finished the week with 119 assists (11.90 assists/set), 30 digs (3.00 digs/set), and a hitting percentage of .300.

DeMarchi, who was named the GLIAC North Division Player of the Week on Monday, becomes only the second Michigan Tech volleyball player to be named the Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week in program history. The first came almost 24 years ago, when Kim Hoppes received the honor in October 1994.

DeMarchi and the Huskies are in action against Purdue Northwest (1-16, 0-9 GLIAC) on Friday (Oct. 5) at 8 p.m., and again on Saturday (Oct. 6) at 2 p.m. against Parkside (4-13, 2-7 GLIAC).
