Ferris State Sweeps Davenport to Win Fifth Consecutive GLIAC Volleyball Tournament Title

2018 GLIAC VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT CENTRAL

GLIAC -- Ferris State University swept their way through Davenport University on Saturday (Nov. 10) to capture the 2018 GLIAC Volleyball Tournament Championship 25-20, 25-16, 25-22 on their home court. This marks the fifth-straight league tournament title for the Bulldogs and sixth in program history. FSU did not drop a set in this year's conference tournament and have accumulated six consecutive sweeps.

Top-seeded Ferris State put together a .261 hitting performance throughout the match, including .289 in the second and .300 in the third set to the put the match away. The Bulldogs were guided by a pair of double-doubles from GLIAC Tournament MVP Allyson Cappel (12 kills, 11 digs) and All-Tournament Team honoree Katie O'Connell (13 kills, 12 digs) along with the third FSU member names to the All-Tournament Team Katie Placek who registered 31 digs in the win. Cappel hit .357 on the match as the FSU offense was setup by Maeve Grimes who recorded 41 assists.

Davenport's Hayley Kreiger led the sixth-seeded Panthers in defeat with 12 kills and four blocks as she was named to the GLIAC All-Tournament Team, while her teammate Jenn Kay Vander Meer earned the same accolades with 19 digs in the tournament finale.

Ferris State, No. 2 in last week's regional rankings, will await their seeding in the upcoming NCAA Volleyball Tournament. The selection show is scheduled for 10 p.m. on Sunday (Nov. 11). Michigan Tech (No. 4) and Ashland (No. 7) will hope to see their names called during the selection show after appearing in last week's region rankings.
