Northern Michigan's Antunes, Grand Valley State's Brower Earn GLIAC Volleyball Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the second weekend of the 2018 volleyball season. Northern Michigan University volleyball sophomore outside hitter Leticia Antunes earned GLIAC Volleyball North Division honors, while Grand Valley State middle blocker Staci Brower captured South Division accolades.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Leticia Antunes - Northern Michigan

Northern Michigan University volleyball sophomore outside hitter Leticia Antunes (Florianopolis, Brazil) was named to the Wildcat Open All-Tournament team after helping the Wildcats to a 4-0 record over the weekend and a defeat of the top-ranked team in the country. Antunes led the Wildcats with 64 kills and also added 42 digs in the four matches. Against top-ranked Minnesota Duluth, she led NMU with 21 kills and also recorded 10 digs and a pair of blocks. With 114 kills on the year, Antunes leads the Wildcats and is third in the GLIAC, while her 3.80 kills per set is fourth-best in the conference. NMU is currently 8-0 and the lone undefeated team in the conference


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Staci Brower - Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State senior middle blocker Staci Brower led the Lakers to an undefeated weekend at the Cavalier Classic in North Canton, Ohio, as they went 4-0 and dropped just two sets in their four contests. In a 3-0 win over Bloomsburg, Brower tallied seven kills while hitting .417 while adding a block assist as well. Against Walsh later the same day, the senior picked up 11 kills, hitting .360 in the process, and tallied one solo rejection and three assisted blocks to help the Lakers to a 3-1 win. The following day, she marked down 11 more kills, hitting .364 this time, and added four more assited blocks and another solo rejection. In the Lakers final match of the weekend, Brower kept her dominant play on display, once again picking up 11 kills while hitting a weekend-high .476 to pick up the win against Virginia Union.

On the weekend, Brower put down 40 kills to just eight attack errors while hitting an impressive .404 in the process. The middle blocker was also dominant at the net on defense, adding 10 total blocks on the weekend as well.
