Michigan Tech's DeMarchi, Wayne State's Richardson Earn GLIAC Volleyball Weekly Recognition

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the sixth weekend of the 2018 volleyball season. Michigan Tech sophomore setter Laura DeMarchi earned GLIAC Volleyball North Division honors, while Wayne State senior outside hitter Hailey Richardson captured South Division accolades.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Laura DeMarchi - Michigan Tech

Michigan Tech sophomore setter Laura DeMarchi was vital as Michigan Tech came back from 2-0 down twice to defeat Wayne State and Ashland 3-2 in consecutive days. DeMarchi combined for 119 assists , 30 digs, 8 kills, and an attack efficiency of .300 as the Huskies improved to 14-3 and 8-1 in the GLIAC. DeMarchi tallied her second-highest assist total of the season with 62 against Ashland, averaging 12.4 assists per set in the five-set thriller. In the previous game against Wayne State, DeMarchi assisted on 57 Husky kills and averaged 11.40 set per set. DeMarchi was also important defensively, averaging three digs per set and .40 blocks per set in the two wins.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Hailey Richardson - Wayne State

Wayne State senior captain Hailey Richardson tallied 34 kills (4.25/set) and nearly .300 for the weekend. She finished with 23 kills and 21 digs versus Michigan Tech in a tough, five-set defeat as the Warriors went 1-1 on the week including a 3-0 sweep over Northern Michigan.
