Michigan Tech's Ghormley, Ashland's Cudworth Garner GLIAC Volleyball Weekly Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the seventh weekend of the 2018 volleyball season. Michigan Tech sophomore Olivia Ghormley earned GLIAC Volleyball North Division honors for the third time this year, while Ashland junior middle blocker/outsider hitter Sophi Cudworth captured South Division accolades.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Olivia Ghormley - Michigan Tech

Michigan Tech sophomore Olivia Ghormley had another pair of big games as the 25th-ranked Huskies swept Purdue Northwest and Parkside. Ghormley combined for 36 kills (6.00 kills/set), seven errors, and a hitting percentage of .426. Ghormley tallied 20 kills for the third straight match and a hitting percentage of .421 as Michigan Tech breezed past Purdue Northwest. Against Parkside, Ghormley finished with 16 kills and a .433 hitting percentage.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Sophi Cudworth - Ashland

Ashland junior middle blocker/outsider hitter Sophi Cudworth hit .338 last week while averaging 3.75 kills and 1.25 blocks per set as the Eagles went 1-1 against Northwood and No. 6 Ferris State. She had nine kills and hit .389 with a career-high eight blocks in a three-set sweep at Northwood on Friday night. Cudworth then racked up a career-high 21 kills while hitting .319 to go with two blocks on Saturday as the Eagles nearly upset No. 6 Ferris State on the road in five sets. She also had two blocks in the five-set thriller. Cudworth ranks sixth in the GLIAC with a .299 hitting percentage.
