GVSU Sweeps Regional Team Titles; Tiffin's Ngandu Claims Regional Crown

CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- The Grand Valley State Lakers once again swept the team competitions at the 2017 NCAA Division II Midwest Regionals on Saturday (Nov. 4) hosted by Cedarville University in Ohio.

The GVSU women won their 17th consecutive regional title with a total of 46 points while Northern Michigan (126) finished fourth. Grand Valley State's Kelly Haubert led all GLIAC runners with a fourth place finish crossing the line in a time of 21:39.5 just edging out Northern Michigan's Kameron Burmeister in fifth place. The Lakers put five runners inside the Top 15, including Gina Patterson (7th), Allie Ludge (8th), Stacey Metzger (12th) and Megan Caltagirone (15th).

The Laker men then recorded a score of 58 points to dominate the men's competition for the 16th consecutive year as Southern Indiana finished second with 72 points. Three-time defending GLIAC Cross Country Champion James Ngandu from Tiffin won the overall competition once again crossing the finish line first with a time of 30:11.8 to continue his impressive career. GVSU's Wuoi Mach and Zach Panning finished fifth and sixth, respectively, to pace the Lakers.

The Division II NCAA National Championships will take place November 18th and will be held at Angel Mounds in Evansville, Ind. and hosted by the University of Southern Indiana. The top three programs in each race advance to the national meet.
