Tiffin's Ngandu, Saginaw Valley's Pawelczyk Land GLIAC Cross Country Athlete of the Week Honors

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards after the first meets of the 2017 cross country season. Saginaw Valley freshman Maggie Pawelczyk captured GLIAC Athlete of the Week honors on the women's side, while Tiffin graduate student James Ngandu garnered the men's award.


WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Maggie Pawelczyk, Saginaw Valley

Saginaw Valley's Maggie Pawelczk, freshman from Wyandotte, Mich., was the top runner for the Cardinals at the Golden Grizzly Invitational held by Oakland University on Saturday, placing seventh out of 106 participants and ran a 14:48.6. 


MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - James Ngandu - Tiffin

Tiffin graduate student James Ngandu opened the 2017 cross country season in fine fashion, posting a victory at the Back to the Nature Preserve Open hosted by Bluffton University. His first place finish in the 6k race came in a time of 18:28.6 and led the field by 12 seconds. Ngandu won seven straight matches last season and finished 3rd at the NCAA National Championships in 2016.
