WSU's Defrain and LSSU's Mitter Earn GLIAC Cross Country Athlete of the Week Accolades

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following week two of the 2019 cross country season. Lake Superior St. junior David Mitter captured GLIAC Athlete of the Week honors on the men's side, while Wayne State sophomore Ashley Defrain garnered the women's award after both taking first at the Warrior Challenge. 


MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: David Mitter - Lake Superior State 

Lake Superior State University junior David Mitter won the Second Annual Wayne State Warrior Challenge in New Boston, Mich., placing first among 77 runners with a time of 26:11.4 in the 8,000-meter distance. The Howell, Mich. native, who competed in the 2018 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships, was the first Laker to qualify for the event since 1993.


WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Ashley Defrain - Wayne State 

Wayne State sophomore Ashley Defrain (Fort Gratiot, Mich. / Port Huron Northern) led WSU to the team title at the Second Annual Warrior Challenge, with a first-place individual time of 22:36.6 (out of 45 runners).  The 6K meet was held at Willow Metropark in New Boston, Mich.  This is the fourth time in her collegiate career that Defrain has been selected GLIAC Female Runner of the Week.
