FSU's Rogers and PNW's Garrido Garcia named 2021-22 GLIAC Pat Riepma Postgraduate Scholarship recipients

GLIAC -- Ferris State women's soccer player Bri Rogers and Purdue Northwest men's soccer player Raul Garrido Garcia have been named the recipients of the 2021-22 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Pat Riepma Postgraduate Scholarship. The honor, which awards each recipient, one male and one female, $5,000 in aid to the graduate school of their choice, was voted on by the Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs) of the GLIAC member institutions.

The GLIAC Postgraduate Scholarship is named after former Northwood University Athletic Director and head football coach Pat Riepma who passed away in July of 2015 after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Pat spent over 21 years at Northwood and was the all-time winningest coach in football history as well as the long time Athletic Director. While his achievements on the field and on behalf of the athletic department are impressive, Pat will be forever remembered for the person he was. Pat was a passionate, spiritual man who inspired thousands of people even before he became sick.  While Pat is gone, his mantra of "Go MAD"- Go Make a Difference, will live on.

Bri Rogers, Ferris State

Senior midfielder Bri Rogers, who hails from Livonia, Mich., capped off her standout soccer career at Ferris State by becoming the second Bulldog in program history to earn All-America honors. Last fall, Rogers totaled 10 goals and two assists, helping lead FSU to a 15-3-4 overall record, which included a second-place 9-2-4 conference mark. The Bulldogs also captured the program's first-ever GLIAC Tournament Championship, stopping GVSU's 14-year title streak, and advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament for only the second time in program history. A three-year team captain, Rogers earned First Team All-GLIAC honors in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021 (spring and fall). She finished her career with 28 goals scored. A United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American (2019, 2021), a United Soccer Coaches Player of Distinction (2021) and a two-time GLIAC Commissioner's Award recipient, Rogers graduated in 2021 magna cum laude with a 3.84 grade point average, majoring in biology with a minor in Spanish. She is currently enrolled in the Ferris State College of Pharmacy, where she is developing novel anticancer drug targets. In 2021, she received FSU's prestigious William Bouyer Award for Leadership. Rogers has served as president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee for the past two years and has been a member of the organization for the past four years. She is also a member of the College of Pharmacy Dean's Advisory Board and the Lambda Kappa Sigma Professional Sorority.
