Grand Valley State's Beatus and DeLong honored as 2022-23 GLIAC Scholar-Athletes of the Year

GLIAC -- Grand Valley State's Hannah Beatus and Charles DeLong have been selected as recipients of the 2022-23 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards.

The winners, awarded annually to one male and one female, were chosen from the male and female GLIAC Commissioner's Award honorees throughout the 2022-23 academic year, showcasing the top student-athletes both on the field and in the classroom.

Senior pitcher Hannah Beatus has been named the 2022-23 GLIAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Year. A higher education major from North Aurora, Ill. boasts a 3.94 cumulative GPA. Beatus earned NFCA and D2CCA first team All-American honors this season after helping the Lakers to the National Championship Series in the College World Series for the second time in program history. Beatus was named the D2CCA Midwest Pitcher of the Year and also earned D2CCA and NFCA Midwest Region first team honors. She earned GLIAC Pitcher of the Year honors for the third time in her career and also named to the All-GLIAC first team for the third time in her career. Beatus posted a 30-3 record this season with a 0.91 ERA including 225 strikeouts and 30 complete games. Her 30 wins this season ranked fourth in the country and she finished her GVSU career with 97 wins which ranks second in GVSU history. Beatus tossed two no-hitters this season and has eight career no-hitters which is a GVSU record. Beatus helped lead the Lakers to a GLIAC Regular Season Championship for the fifth time in her career with a 20-1 GLIAC record.


Charles DeLong  •  Golf  •  Grand Valley State


Grand Valley State sophomore golfer Charles DeLong has been named the GLIAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Year. The DeWitt native has tallied a 3.77 cumulative GPA as a Business Economics major throughout his time at GVSU. DeLong put together the best season in GVSU men's golf history, tallying seven wins, bringing his career total up to a program high 13 victories. DeLong was named the Division II Jack Nicklaus Award winner for the Player of the Year, as he also earned PING First-Team All-American honors for the second consecutive season. He was also named the GLIAC Player of the Year for the second straight year, as he shot 30 rounds of par or better, shooting an average round of 69. DeLong helped lead the Lakers to 10 tournament wins this year, including the GLIAC Championship, their first Regional Title, and the best finish, fifth place, at the National Tournament in program history. DeLong was an unanimous selection for the Commissioner Award and was the top vote getter among all male athletes.
