HAMMOND, Ind. -- Purdue University Northwest Athletics is delighted to announce that Ismael Contreras of the Men's Soccer team has been selected as the NCAA GLIAC SAAC representative from January 2020 through January 2023! Contreras is a sophomore studying Business Analytics.

"I'm thrilled to have this opportunity to serve as a representative of PNW and of the GLIAC on the national level," said Contreras. "I most definitely would not have been in this position had it not been for the immense support from my peers and the entire Athletic Department staff. I look forward to the challenges that will come with this position and to representing PNW to the best of my ability."

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) across NCAA Division II institutions serves as the primary governance arm representing student-athlete interests in Division II affairs. SAAC members serve as student-athlete liaisons that monitor and discuss happenings on campuses, within conference and at the national level. Representatives are responsible for gathering feedback and reporting on behalf of their conference, as well as relaying important events, hot topics and educational information to both the campus and conference levels. In addition to relaying information across campuses and conferences, the committee speaks on behalf of the entire Division II student-athlete body throughout the NCAA governance structure. Division II SAAC members serve as voting members on a number of Division II committees, including the Management Council. The SAAC also has voting authority during the Division II Business Session at the annual NCAA Convention.

"Ish takes great pride in his role as a student-athlete at Purdue Northwest," said Jennifer Madgiak, Associate Athletic Director for Academic Services and Senior Woman's Administrator. "He is actively engaged in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and exemplifies PNW Athletics' core values of service, integrity, and sportsmanship. Furthermore, he helps to establish a culture of giving back to the local community and provides a welcoming environment that celebrates diversity. This is a tremendous opportunity for Ish, Men's Soccer, Purdue Northwest, and the GLIAC as he will work closely with all other conferences as well as the NCAA national office.  He will become an expert in NCAA legislature and be an advocate for all student-athletes. Congratulations!"
