HILLSDALE, Mich. - Much of the Hillsdale College community is planning to chip in with the basketball teams' participation in the 2011 WBCA Pink Zone Week, scheduled for the Chargers' home games vs. Ohio Dominican and Tiffin this week.
The Pink Zone is a nationwide initiative that was started by
the Women's Basketball Coaches Association to help raise
funds and awareness for breast cancer research. Pink Zone events
are scheduled during the month of February and involve college
basketball teams at all levels throughout the country. Hillsdale
College is joining in this year's battle with several events, both
on and off campus.
The college's Student Athlete Advisory Committee is planning
several events around this year's Pink Zone theme. Members of the
organization will be bagging groceries at Hillsdale's Kroger food
store from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7 to start this week's
series of events.
Pink Zone T-shirts will be on sale at both of Hillsdale's home
games this week, throughout the duration of each doubleheader. In
addition, a 50/50 raffle drawing will take place during Thursday's
games vs. Ohio Dominican, and Saturday, a separate raffle will be
held where fans can win apparel donated by other Hillsdale College
athletic teams.
Three-point shooting contests are also scheduled at halftime of
the upcoming home games, where fans can pay $1 for a shot, and if
they make the shot, they can win $2.
