GLIAC

Michael Pierce began as the GLIAC Associate Commissioner of Championships and Compliance in February, 2023. 

Pierce came to the GLIAC from conference member Saginaw Valley State, where he served as Associate Athletic Director for Compliance & Academic Services since May, 2019. He oversaw all aspects of NCAA compliance for 19 sports and over 500 student-athletes.

At SVSU, Pierce was responsible for monitoring student-athlete eligibility, athletics financial aid, recruiting activities, playing and practice seasons and student-athlete awards and benefits. Additionally, he conducted varied rules education sessions, provided rules interpretations and submitted SVSU waiver requests through the NCAA’s LSDBi, RSRO, CAi, and Eligibility Center applications.

He was also the SAAC Advisor, assisting SAAC in planning and conducting various community service, charitable fundraising, and student-athlete recognition events.

Prior to SVSU, Pierce was the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance at Utah Valley University. He was the primary compliance contact for Cross Country/Track, Men’s Soccer, Wrestling, and Women’s Volleyball teams. He was also the primary compliance contact working with the Registrar’s office in conducting student-athlete certification. He served as the Sport Administrator for the Cross Country and Track teams. He was the SAAC Advisor. He helped in the application and oversight of UVU’s NCAA Academic Accelerating Success Program grant.

He also initially started in collegiate athletics as UVU’s Compliance Coordinator in May, 2014. Between stints in Orem, Utah, Pierce was the Assistant Director of Compliance at Northern Arizona University. Before working in collegiate athletics, he worked as a law clerk for Beus Gilbert, PLLC in Phoenix, Ariz. from 2013-14.

Pierce is a native of Midland, Mich. He earned a J.D. at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University.
