With a 3-0 sweep over visiting Lake Superior State University (MI) on Saturday afternoon, the Malone University volleyball team picked up its second win in the last three contests and improved to 9-10 overall and to 4-7 in GLIAC play while the Lakers fell to 2-13 overall and to 4-7 in the GLIAC.
After a nail-biting first set in which the Pioneers tallied a 29-27 win, Malone then collected a solid 25-20 victory in set two followed by a convincing 25-14 win in the third and final set.
Although Malone posted the 3-0 sweep, the major statistics were very even as the Pioneers held a slim 45-44 advantage in kills while the Lakers held a 48-42 edge in digs. Â Malone posted an effective .308 attack percentage while the Lakers finished with a .188 percentage. Â Malone tallied a total of 12 blocks/block assists while LSSU had six and the Pioneers dropped in five service aces on the day to the Lakers' one.
Outside hitter
Taylor Slauterbeck helped fuel the Malone offense as she drilled a team-high 15 kills while adding eight digs and one block assist on the defensive side. Â Middle hitter

Anna Hays each contributed seven kills with Kool also tallying three block assists. Setter

Malone will next compete in the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover tournament next weekend (Oct. 25-26) in Aurora, Illinois.
