SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's basketball program (2-6, 1-4 GLIAC) lost 73-63 at Lake Superior State (9-3, 4-2 GLIAC) on Saturday afternoon inside Bud Cooper Gymnasium.  It was the first action for the Warriors in three weeks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
WSU jumped out to a 5-0 lead following a three-pointer from Brailen Neely (Detroit, Mich. / Western International) at the 18:07 mark.  Darian Owens-White (Detroit, Mich. / River Rouge) extended the Green & Gold advantage to 8-3 with 16:57 to play before halftime.  LSSU made a run but Owens-White slowed the home rally with a long-range jumper, making it 14-10.  Another triple by Owens-White on the following possession pushed the visitor's lead to 17-12 at the 13:03 mark.  The Lakers took their first lead of the afternoon, 18-17, with 9:17 remaining.

Freddy Johnson (Saginaw, Mich. / Bella Vista / Arthur Hill) connected from behind the arc, pushing Wayne State's advantage to 24-18, at the 6:35 mark.  Two free throws from Avery Lewis (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Huron) made it 29-24 with 3:26 to play in the first half.  Lake Superior State led 30-29 but WSU used a 4-0 run to take a 33-30 lead.  Blake Cassidy tied the game at 33-33 with 55 seconds to play but two points at the charity stripe from Owens-White gave the Warriors a 35-33 halftime lead.

Neely scored Wayne State's first points of the second half with a three-pointer at the 17:38 mark, tying the game at 38-38.  A bucket by Mike Robinson (Ypsilanti, Mich. / Ann Arbor Huron) trimmed LSSU's lead to one, 42-41, with 15:54 remaining.  The Lakers stretched their lead to 49-45 on a three-pointer at the 11:57 mark.  WSU's cold-shooting continued and the home margin grew to eight, 54-46, with nine minutes left in regulation.

Owens-White strung together five quick points to bring Wayne State within two, 55-53, at the 7:45 mark.  Ray Williams, Jr. (Detroit, Mich. / Edison Public School Academy) kept the deficit at two, 59-57, with a mid-range jumper with 5:22 to play and Neely followed with a layup to tie the game at 59-59.  A basket by Kemon Bassett gave the Lakers a 64-61 advantage at the 2:42 mark.  The run reached 7-0 to give LSSU a 69-61 advantage with 2:17 left.  The Warriors were unable to make a late run and lost by 10.
