Bulldogs Fall In Season Opener At Maryville

St. Louis, Mo. - The nationally 17th-ranked Ferris State University women's soccer team fell 2-1 in its season opener to the Maryville Saints (Mo.) on Thursday (August 25) at MU Stadium.

The Saints jumped out to a 2-0 lead, opening the scoring at 11:01 when Madison Canoy beat FSU sophomore goalkeeper Darya Mosallaei up high for a 1-0 MU edge. 

Maryville doubled its lead 22 seconds into the second half when Lexi Gentry scored in tight for a 2-0 margin.

Ferris State got on the board just under four minutes later at 49:20 when freshman Grace Pratt netted her first collegiate goal, ripping a shot off the underside of the cross bar and in to cut the Maryville lead in half. Ferris State senior Isabella Zamborini picked up her first assist of the campaign on the play.

The Bulldogs played one up for the final 12 minutes when Maryville's Erin Barnes picked up her second yellow card of the day. The Bulldogs had a chance staved off moments later, but could not find the equalizer. 

In goal, Mosallaei made six stops for Ferris State on the day. The Bulldogs carried a 14-13 advantage in shots, though Maryville had an 8-5 lead in shots on goal. Ferris State attempted three corners to Maryville's six on the day. 

Ferris State returns to Michigan and heads East for a non-conference match-up with Northwood on Sunday (August 28) in Midland, set for 1 p.m.
