Ferris State Starts Three-Game Road Stretch By Beating Northwood In Midland

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad stayed on top of the GLIAC standings as the Bulldogs opened a three-game road stretch with a 101-78 victory at Northwood on Monday (Jan. 24) night in Midland.

The Bulldogs built a 48-42 halftime lead in a high-scoring contest and raced past NU by totaling 53 second-half points in garnering the triumph.

With the win, the Bulldogs are now 14-3 overall and a perfect 9-0 atop the GLIAC and remain the league's only unbeaten squad in conference action.

Monday's game represented FSU's final GLIAC trip to Northwood before the Timberwolves depart the league at the end of the season.

Senior guard Walt Kelser got the Bulldogs off to a big start and finished with a game-high 25 points for FSU while senior guard Lee Higgins added 16 points and senior big man Logan Ryan netted 14 points. Freshman Ethan Erickson also reached double-digits with 11 points for the Bulldogs.

All 11 Bulldog players in uniform saw action and scored for FSU, which shot 50% from the floor and went 23-of-31 (74.2%) at the free throw line. The Bulldogs were eight-of-17 (47.1%) from long range.

Meanwhile, Northwood shot 41.8% from the field and hit on seven-of-19 (36.8%) three's along with 15-of-18 (83.3%) free throws.

FSU finished with a decisive 44-26 rebounding margin and forced 13 turnovers in the game while coming up with six steals. Kelser had three steals and three assists to go with three rebounds in addition to his 25 points in 30 minutes of work.

Overall, the Bulldogs outscored NU 46-36 in the paint and 22-9 in points off turnovers in addition to 16-3 on the break and 18-13 in second chance production.

Northwood had four players reach double-figure scoring and was led by Ramelle Arnold with 24 points in the contest.

Ferris State will visit Saginaw Valley State on Thursday (Jan. 27) for a 8 p.m. (ET) league matchup in Detroit, continuing a three-game GLIAC road swing.
