Tech tramples Timberwolves 98-75

MIDLAND, Mich. - Owen White was a force in the paint and Eric Carl supplemented from the outside and the Michigan Tech men's basketball team defeated Northwood 98-75 Saturday afternoon at Riepma arena in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. The Huskies scored 51 points in the first half and shot an efficient 60-percent overall to pick up a win in their first GLIAC matchup this season.

White led the Huskies with 22 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds and shot 9-14 from the floor. Carl broke out for 21 points on 8-12 shooting, including 5 of 7 from 3-point range. Carl added three rebounds and one block. 

After a 15-15 tie early in the first half, the Huskies took control of the game with a 19-6 run to open a 34-21 advantage with 6:20 to play. After extending the lead to 18, Tech took a 51-35 advantage into the break. Michigan Tech connected on 8 of 12 first-half threes. Tech never trailed by less than 21 through the final 17 minutes of the second half.

Adam Hobson made a strong impact with 15 points, two steals, and two assists. Kyle Clow added 13 points, five points, and three assists in 14 minutes off the bench. Clow shot 4-for-7 overall and 3-4 from the free throw line. Trent Bell was an efficient 4-6 for nine points.

Michigan Tech (4-2, 1-0 GLIAC) finished 39-for-65 (60-percent) from the field, including 12-for-22 (55-percent) from beyond the arc. MTU pulled in 32 rebounds compared to 25 for Northwood and nabbed eight steals.

Four players made it to double-figures for the Timberwolves (3-4, 1-1 GLIAC). DeSean Munson posted 18 points and made 8 of 11 basket tries. Ramelle Arnold had 15 points and Jack Ammerman put up 13 points. Northwood shot 50.9-percent (28-55) and made eight 3-pointers (8-18). Quentin Richardson notched 14 points and eight rebounds off the bench.

The Huskies return to Houghton to play Northern Michigan at SDC Gymnasium Monday, December 6 at 7:30 p.m. Northwood plays at Eastern Michigan Sunday at 4 p.m.
