Hillsdale Remains Unbeaten After Shutout of Pride

Box score

The Hillsdale College women's tennis team wrapped up its win over Purdue Northwest so quickly Sunday afternoon, all the matches didn't even get completed.

The two teams agreed to "play to clinch," which meant the match would end as soon as one team mathematically clinched the win over the other, which is what college tennis teams do in postseason play.

That went in Hillsdale's favor in a 4-0 win over the Pride at the Margot V. Biermann Athletic Center. The Chargers improved to 4-0 on the season with the win.

A trio of one-sided doubles wins clinched that point for Hillsdale to open the match. Sarah Hackman and Hannah Cimpeanu were 6-0 winners in the No. 1 slot. Reigning G-MAC Player of the Week Katie Bell teamed up with Ellie Chawner to win 6-2 at No. 2 doubles. Senior Kamryn Matthews and freshman Canela Luna won a 6-1 decision at No. 3 doubles, as Matthews inched closer to 100 career wins.

Hackman was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 1 singles. Bell won again at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2 while Matthews was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 3 singles.
