Chargers sweep past Michigan Tech, 7-0, to improve to 6-1 on the season

The Hillsdale College men's tennis team wrapped up its second win of the weekend in a dominant 7-0 victory over visiting Michigan Tech on Sunday afternoon.

The Chargers won every match on the court without dropping a set to defeat the Huskies and improve to 6-1 overall, with three straight victories over Midwest Regional opponents.

Hillsdale took all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point to start. Hillsdale's No. 1 team of Brennan Cimpeanu and Sean Barstow pulled off a 6-1 victory in the top flight in doubles, while Hillsdale's No. 2 doubles team of Brian Hackman and Aidan Pack picked up a 6-3 victory, and the Chargers' No. 3 doubles team of Tyler Conrad and Daniel Gilbert earned a 6-4 win.

In singles matches, Cimpeanu got back on track with one of his most dominant performances of the season at No. 1 singles, rolling to a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Leon Sell of Michigan Tech, while freshman Aidan Pack won a 6-3, 6-3 match at No. 2 singles over the Huskies' Nikolai Gonzalez.

At No. 3 singles, Brian Hackman battled through to win a first-set tiebreak 7-4, then carried the momentum over to the second set in a 6-2 victory to clinch the match for the Chargers. Hillsdale completed the sweep with Conrad winning at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-1, over Eli Pinnoo of Tech, Barstow taking his No. 5 singles match 6-2, 6-1 over the Huskies' Ricardo Nunez Cuesta, and Gilbert picking up a 6-0, 6-1 win over Ambarish Rao of Michigan Tech at No. 6 singles.

Hillsdale has now won three straight matches since its lone loss on the season and will take its recent hot streak to face a tougher test next Saturday, with a match against an always-solid Grand Valley State team up next in Grand Rapids. The Chargers have three more Midwest Regional matches before its annual Spring Break trip to Florida beginning on March 12, and following the trip down south will jump right into G-MAC play when they get back on March 18.
