Ferris State Volleyball Knocks Off #18 Hillsdale In Regional Road Sweep

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad notched one of its biggest wins of the season on Tuesday (Oct. 26) night as the Bulldogs swept nationally 18th-ranked Hillsdale on the road by a 3-0 score at Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena in Hillsdale.

The Bulldogs claimed the regional road showdown with a 25-21, 27-25, 25-23 triumph to improve to 18-4 overall this year.

The victory was FSU's 13th in a row this campaign and it also marked the Bulldogs' 10th sweep in their last 12 contests.

The Bulldogs had three players reach double-digits in kills in the win with senior hitter Katie O'Connell leading the way with 17 kills. She also added 17 digs in the victory.

Along with O'Connell, the Bulldogs received 13 kills from freshman outside hitter Keona Salesman to go with 12 by Olivia Henneman-Dallape. Middle hitter Kira Merkle chipped in with six kills.

The Bulldogs were led defensively by libero Nina Gorgijevska with 19 digs. In addition to Gorgijevska and O'Connell, FSU's Brooke Norder tallied 13 digs and Kaylee Maat had 12 to go with her 47 assists in leading the Bulldog attack.

Ferris State finished with a .264 attack percentage and totaled 81 digs on the night. FSU also had four service aces and finished with 10 block assists and two solo stops at the net.

Hillsdale was led by Maggie DePorre with 13 kills. Marilyn Popplewell added 10 kills for the Chargers.

Ferris State will return to GLIAC play with another West Michigan matchup at longtime rival Grand Valley State on Friday (Oct. 29) with match time set for 3 p.m. (ET) at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale.
