Men's Soccer Senior Sam Erchick opened the scoring for the Pioneers with his frst goal of the season

Men's Soccer Cruises to 5-0 Victory over Lake Erie College

Box Score
The Malone University men's soccer team cruised to a 5-0 win over Lake Erie College (2-6, 1-4 GLIAC) on Sunday to improve their record to 2-4 and 2-3 in the GLIAC.

Senior Sam Erchick's 4th minute goal set the tone for the Pioneers and they would never look back. Erchick ran onto a Rubem Miranda cross, arriving a split second before the oncoming keeper, and blasted it by his shoulder for his first goal of the year. The game would settle down after the early goal and Malone headed into halftime ahead 1-0.

Sophomore Ryan Brumbaugh's goal early in the second half, however, would open the floodgates and lead to a second half onslaught. Brumbaugh received a pass from sophomore defender Luan Tufani, used his strength to hold off a defender, and slid a shot into the lower left corner to up the lead to 2-0. He wasn't done either as 10 minutes later he found his name on the score sheet once again, this time converting a rebound from Miranda's shot into an open goal.
Miranda scored his third goal of the year in the 66th minute when he stole the ball from a Storm defender and raced in alone on goal. Senior Adam Sharpnackclosed out the scoring heading in a well placed cross from junior Kelvin Aquino for his first goal of the year.

Malone outshot Lake Erie 19-17 for the contest. Junior goalkeeper Felipe Monteiro earned his second win of the year and first shutout of the season by making six saves. Malone next plays Friday, Sept. 28 at Tiffin University. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
