Ferris State Men's Tennis Garners Big Road Victory Over Rival Northwood

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad hit the road on Friday (March 26) and came away with a big 5-2 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) victory over longtime league tennis rival Northwood in Midland.

The Bulldogs stayed unbeaten on the year, improving to 8-0 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the GLIAC with the victory over the Timberwolves.

"It was a great, gritty win today," said FSU head coach Mark Doren. "We played without Jan Koupil, but the rest of the team stepped up big time. Any win over Northwood is big, but to do it shorthanded was extra special."

Ferris State claimed the doubles point with wins at the first and third flights, including a forfeit win at three doubles.

In singles action, the Bulldogs won three of the five contested matches. FSU's Mathis Guerre won in a three-setter at one singles with Benjamin Lortie and Josh McDermott claiming wins at the third and fourth flights, respectively.

Northwood's lone wins in singles play came at the second and fifth spots with the number six singles match credited as a forfeit in favor of the Bulldogs.

Ferris State will return to action on Saturday, April 3, against West Michigan rival Grand Valley State on the road.
