Cardinals Second-Half Push Falls Short on the Road

FINDLAY, Ohio – The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team rallied late in the second half but fell 79-73 in a road contest against Findlay on Tuesday night. Tre Garrett led the way with 19 points on 7-12 shooting. Garrett added a game-high five steals along with three rebounds.

Freddie McIntosh contributed 14 points while adding five assists and three rebounds. Jiovanni Miles added 11 points, two steals, and three rebounds. Steven Post scored nine points with a perfect 4-4 shooting from the floor. Kevonne Taylor was the leader on the boards with five rebounds. He added seven points to his totals for the evening.

The Oilers used a 12-1 run to pull ahead 22-8 at the 11:34 mark of the first half. The margin grew to 24 points after Findlay completed a three-point play the hard way for the game's largest lead with 5:13 remaining before halftime. The Cardinals cut the deficit by eight as the score sat at 47-32 as the teams entered the locker room at the break. Miles was 4-6 in the first half to score all 11 of his po the first half.

Garrett sparked a 6-0 run in the opening two minutes of the second half to shorten the Oiler's advantage to just 11 points. McIntosh made a layup that started an 8-0 run that brought SVSU within eight points of tying things up. Alijah Harrison hit a three to keep the margin at eight before a three from Steven Post ignited a 9-0 run that had the score at 63-59 with 7:21 left in regulation. The Cardinals continued to fight to keep the score within a few possessions. However, the Oilers hit their free throws down the stretch.
