Cardinals fall to Bulldogs 2-0

Big Rapids, Mich. -- The SVSU Cardinals hit the road to take on the Bulldogs of Ferris State University in regional match play.

The Bulldogs took an early lead when Pia Nagel found the back of the net at the 25:57 mark to put FSU up, 1-0. That count held true until the halftime break.

SVSU recorded eight shots in the first half, two of those shots were on goal. The Bulldogs had two shots on goal, with one finding the goal. 

The Cardinal defense held strong through the 58:48 when Pia Nagel scored for the second time putting FSU up, 2-0. 

The Bulldogs were able to keep SV off the scoreboard for the duration of the second half, closing-out for the clean sheet and the victory.  

Inside the Boxscore

  • Amy Babon and Molly Vanderhoff led the offensive charge for the Cardinals, both recording two shots, one of them being on goal
  • Valentina Giambanco recorded one shot on the match which was on goal
  • In her 90 minutes in goal, Alyssa Watts, contended five shots on goal while unable to save two

From Head Coach Michael O'Neill...

 "We started the game really well tday and took control early on. In all honesty, we could of shown more cutting edge in the final third as we didn't create too many clear cut chances for the amount of possession we had. Second half was a lackluster performance as we failed to keep the ball and create the much needed momentum to get back in the game. The goals we conceded were sloppy on our part and we need to learn from those mistakes as we prepare for a very good GVSU team on Friday night."
