Dax excels in Huskies 75-49 win

MARQUETTE, Mich. - Sara Dax posted 17 points and shot 7-for-9 to help Michigan Tech to a 75-49 win over William Jewell in non-conference basketball Sunday afternoon at Berry Events Center. The Huskies dominated the Cardinals 23-12 in the second quarter and caused 20 turnovers to prevail in their second and final NMU Tournament game.

"We played well today and a lot of people contributed," said head coach Sam Clayton. "Sara was excellent for us in the low post and we got a lot of help from the bench as well. Clara (Johnson) created a lot in the first half and Isabella (Lenz) made a couple of threes as well. I thought our defensive effort was better than yesterday and it was nice to get a win against a quality opponent."

Michigan Tech shot 42-percent from the field and created 15 assists compared to nine turnovers. A 16-0 second-quarter run proved to be the difference as the Huskies led 41-28 at halftime and cruised in the second half. Lenz finished with 13 points (5-10) and 3 of 6 from the 3-point line. Johnson posted 15 points and Katelyn Meister nabbed four Michigan Tech's 14 steals.

Libby Arnold led the Cardinals with 22 points on 8-13 shooting. Kate Hillyer also provided 13 points and eight rebounds for WJU. The Huskies won the boards battle 38-32 and Lydia Schable made a pair of blocks.

Michigan Tech (2-0, 0-0 GLIAC) returns home to face Minnesota-Crookston on Friday, November 19 at 5:30 in the SDC Gymnasium. William-Jewell (0-2, 0-0 GLVC) continues with Baker University on November 17. The Cardinals fell 61-41 to Northern Michigan on Saturday in Marquette.

Sara Dax was named Superior National Bank player of the game for the Huskies.
