Ferris State Races Past #7 Hillsdale In Regional Road Win To Remain Unbeaten

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad remained unbeaten as the Bulldogs raced to a 89-58 regional road win over nationally seventh-ranked Hillsdale on Wednesday (Nov. 17) night in Hillsdale.

The Bulldogs improved to 3-0 overall by knocking off one of the nation's top teams, shooting 53.7% from the floor and connecting on 16-of-28 (57.1%) three's in the win. It marked the second-straight contest in which the Bulldogs have made 16 three's or more, coming on the heels of a school-record 19 treys in a victory over Drury on Sunday.

Senior guard Walt Kelser led for Bulldog players in double-figures with a game-high 21 points in the victory. Graduate senior Lee Higgins added 18 points with senior forward Dorian Aluyi chipping in 14 points to go with 10 by senior forward Logan Ryan.

Despite giving up size to a big Hillsdale lineup, the Bulldogs out rebounded the Chargers 42-35 for the night and FSU had only seven turnovers in the contest while playing the game at FSU's pace.

Defensively, Ferris State also limited the Chargers to only 35.4% shooting and Hillsdale was only six-of-25 (24%) from the three-point line.

The Chargers were led by standout Patrick Cartier, who finished with 19 points, which was 13 points below his 32.0 points per game average entering the contest. Jack Gohlke added 13 points, but was the only other Hillsdale player to reach double-figure scoring.

The Bulldogs return home to host Ashland in yet another regional tilt on Saturday (Nov. 20) at Jim Wink Arena. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. (ET). FSU will also hold a special celebration with members of FSU's 2018 NCAA Division II National Championship team on hand to commemorate a new mural recognizing the team's accomplishments inside Wink Arena.
