Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad found a way again on Wednesday (Nov. 27) night as the Bulldogs headed into the Thanksgiving break with a 90-80 win over East-West University (Ill.) at FSU's Jim Wink Arena.
The Bulldogs notched their nation-leading 10th win of the year as they raced to the triumph in the high-scoring tilt between the two schools. FSU is now 10-1 overall and beat the Phantoms in Big Rapids for the second-straight year.
The game was back and forth as it featured nine lead changes overall. The Bulldogs took a 41-39 edge and eventually led by as many as 15 points with four minutes to play in the final half as they totaled 49 second-half points.
Junior forward Dorian Aluyi paced FSU with 19 points and 12 rebounds in his second-straight double-double effort. Meanwhile, freshman wing Deng Reng totaled 18 points with junior guard Walt Kelser adding 16 points and seven assists.
The Bulldogs shot 48.4% overall, but went only five-of-21 (23.8%) from long range along with a 23-of-31 (74.2%) effort at the free throw line.
East-West got a game-high 28 points from Brandon Daughtry, who finished 10-of-24 from the floor but also had nine turnovers. Torrence Thomas chipped in 15 points with Patrick Grabowski notching 14 points and 12 boards.
The Phantoms shot only 38.8% overall and were 10-of-30 (33.3%) from long range. However, they also finished with 85 total shots to 64 for FSU as they came up with 16 offensive rebounds and outscored FSU 17-10 on the offensive glass. East-West went four-of-five (80%) at the line.
Ferris State owned a 52-38 edge inside the paint and a 33-23 margin on the break. In addition, FSU dished ou 24 assists overall and finished with nine steals and seven blocked shots.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Thursday, Dec. 5, as they open Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play at home against Wayne State starting at 5:30 p.m. (ET).
