ST. PAUL, Minn. - Concordia-St. Paul (3-6, 2-5 GLIAC) had its seven game home winning streak snapped on Friday evening, falling 15-9 to Davenport (7-1, 3-1 GLIAC) in the team's first game outdoors at Sea Foam Stadium since defeating Davenport in the 2019 GLIAC Tournament quarterfinals.
Concordia will host Davenport again on Sunday with an 11 a.m. start time at Sea Foam Stadium, honoring its two graduating seniors
Valerie Bragg and
Lex Seifert prior to the contest.
It was Concordia's first loss to Davenport in the sixth meeting in the all-time series and pushes CSP's losing streak to five games, holding leads in three of the games during the streak.
The Golden Bears were led by
Molly Moynihan's five points, scoring twice and setting up three other CSP goals. Freshman
Hailey Hartlage netted her first career hat trick, adding four draw controls and two ground balls. Senior
Katie Moynihan also had a two goal effort.
Concordia jumped out to a hot start, sprinting out to a 3-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of play, forcing an early Davenport timeout. Although the Panthers recovered and scored the next two goals (each in the 14th minute) amid a 4-1 stretch,
Molly Moynihan scored twice and set up Hartlage on another to maintain a 6-4 lead at the break after Davenport had tied the game at 4-4 in the 20th minute.
In the second half, Davenport scored the first five goals to build a 9-6 lead in the first 10 minutes of play. Hartlage and Moynihan once again took over to put CSP back in the contest as Hartlage scored on a free position shot in the 11th minute before
Molly Moynihan found her sister
Katie Moynihan to cut the margin back to one (9-8) in the 13th minute. Molly picked up her third assist on a
Mary Keating goal a bit later to once again cut the lead to one, 10-9 with 11:20 to play in the contest.
From there, Davenport closed it out, sored five straight down the stretch.
The Panthers were led by Anna Glynn's six points (4g, 2) while Aaliyah Miller had four goals. Ryan Deuel and Brenna Knoll each had three goals and an assist, as well.
In goal,
Maddy Huebner took the loss for CSP despite a strong effort with 12 saves (six each half) while Davenport starter Grace DeRidder played the first half, allowing six goals with two saves. Tylor Baker picked up the win in the second half, allowing three goals and making one save for DU. Huebner also secured a team-high six ground balls on a busy afternoon in the crease.
Although CSP had the early lead, momentum rolled back to Davenport partially due to possession. The Panthers claimed eight of the first nine draw controls and finished the evening with a 17-9 advantage in the middle while accumulating a 34-13 final shot margin as a result. Hartlage and
Sarah Pierson led CSP with four draw controls each while Deuel picked up seven for Davenport.
Concordia also committed a majority of its 23 fouls in scoring position, leading to Davenport holding an 11-2 edge in free position shots and a 6-1 scoring margin on free position shots. All three of Knoll's goals came on free position chance, where she attempted eight free position shots in the game.
Defensively,
Lily Walesheck secured five ground balls and added a caused turnover while
Valerie Bragg led the squad with a pair of caused turnovers.
