Bulldog Men's Basketball Wins At Least Share Of Third Divisional Title In Last Four Seasons

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad pulled out a 93-89 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road win over Purdue Northwest on Thursday (Feb. 20) night to claim at least a share of the GLIAC North Division Championship in Hammond, Ind.

The Bulldogs came up big down the stretch to pull out the season sweep over the Pride and move to 25-5 overall this year with the victory.

With the win, FSU now holds a two-game lead atop the GLIAC North with two games remaining in the regular-season. Ferris State is also tied atop the league overall for the number one seed for the conference tournament with rival Grand Valley State.

The victory gave the Bulldogs at least a share of the conference crown with a chance to win the division outright with a win in either of the final two regular-season matchups. The title is FSU's third in the last four seasons and 16th overall in program history.

Senior guard D'angelo Hughes had a big finish for the Bulldogs as he nailed a key three-pointer in the final minute to extend the Bulldog lead before coming back with a big steal on the defensive end. He finished with a team-high 20 points in the win.

FSU also got 17 points off the bench from junior forward Michael Peterson to go along with 14 points by junior forward Dorian Aluyi and 12 points from junior guard Walt Kelser.

Overall, Ferris State shot 52.2% from the floor and went 12-of-30 (40%) from long range along with 11-of-15 (73.3%) at the free throw stripe.

Purdue Northwest was paced by Jyrus Freels, who had a game-high 21 points. Timothy Gilmore added 15 points with Anthony Barnard scoring 13 points and Jordan Doss posting 12 points in the setback.

Ferris State forced 16 turnovers in the win.

Ferris State will visit Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday (Feb. 22) for a 4 p.m. (ET) GLIAC encounter in Kenosha, Wis. The Bulldogs currently lead second-place Michigan Tech by two games atop the divisional standings with two games remaining in the regular-season.

The Bulldogs have also secured a quarterfinal-round home game for the GLIAC Tournament, which begins on Tuesday, March 3.
