Preview: Laker Women's Basketball Set to Conclude Regular Season on the Road With GLIAC Postseason Implications

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State women's basketball program (6-18, 3-13 GLIAC) is set to travel to take on the No. 5 Grand Valley State Lakers and the Davenport Panthers on Thursday, Feb. 23, and Saturday, Feb. 25 with a chance of participating in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC)  tournament on the line.

Grand Valley (24-2, 15-1 GLIAC) are currently riding a winning streak of seven games, and they have already clinched the GLIAC regular season title. Emily Spitzley is currently pacing a balanced attack with an average of 13.8 points per game.

The Panthers (7-19, 1-15 GLIAC) are currently on a losing streak of nine games, and have been mathematically eliminated from postseason contention due to a Purdue Northwest regular season sweep over Davenport breaking a potential three-way tie for the eighth seed. The Panthers are led by Lillee Gustafson who is scoring an average of 14.3 points per game while also leading her team in rebounding 9.3 per contest.

LSSU can secure a playoff berth with a win over Grand Valley on Thursday, a win over Davenport combined with a Purdue Northwest loss to Saginaw Valley, or a Davenport loss to Ferris State combined with victories by Saginaw Valley and Wayne State over Purdue Northwest. In the event of both LSSU and Purdue Northwest losing on Thursday and winning on Saturday, Lake Superior State earns the eighth seed by virtue of a +8 head to head point differential over Purdue Northwest.
