Cardinals defeat Panthers in GLIAC opener

CALEDONIA, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team opened Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 2-0 victory over the Davenport University Panthers on Sunday afternoon. With the win, SVSU's overall record moves to 4-0-1 and 1-0-0 in GLIAC play. 

After a scoreless first half, Amy Babon found Stephanie Strong in the 62nd minute to make it 1-0. The goal was Strong's fifth of the year. In the 87th minute, Babon found the back of the net to add an insurance goal for SVSU as the Cardinals. Babon's goal was her third of the season. 

In net Olivia Argeros made three saves for the Cardinals. SVSU outshot the Panthers 15-8. 

The Cardinals return home to face Northern Michigan University at 1 PM Friday at Braddock Field.
