Baseball Wins Fifth Straight to Finish Florida Trip

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Wayne State University baseball team (14-3 overall) met Division I Dartmouth (4-5 overall) on Thursday night and topped the Big Green by a score of 3-2 as the Warriors finished their Spring Break trip to Florida with five straight wins.  WSU pieced together just enough offense paired with strong pitching to collect its GLIAC-best 14th victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Justin Kelly (Wheaton, Ill. / Wheaton Warrenville South) singled to center field to begin the top of the second inning and moved to second on a groundout.  He reached third base and scored on a Dartmouth error.  Two hits and a WSU error in the bottom of the fourth inning led to a pair of runs for the Big Green.

The Warriors were quick to answer with two runs on three hits in the top of the fifth inning.  Jacob Badalamenti (Clinton Twp., Mich. / De La Salle) started the frame with an infield single and Michael MacLean (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Country Day / The Lawrenceville School) kept the rally alive with a two-out walk.  Tristen Jorah (Clinton Twp., Mich. / Sterling Heights Stevenson) tied the game with an RBI single into left and Hunter DeLanoy (Hartland, Mich.) drove in the eventual game-winning run with an RBI single into center field.

Starter Tyler Waldrop (Grand Ledge, Mich.) (3-0) danced around two hits and a walk in the bottom of the fifth inning to leave the bases loaded and keep the one-run lead intact.  Waldrop finished his day by setting down the side in order in the bottom of the sixth inning, including two Ks.  Addison Pawelek (Shelby Twp., Mich. / De La Salle) replaced Waldrop to begin the seventh inning and used a fielder's choice for the inning's first out before Brendan Wetmore (Westland, Mich. / John Glenn) entered to collect the final two outs without allowing Dartmouth to create any momentum.

Jack Schmidt (Fishers, Ind. / Indianapolis Cathedral) came in to work the ninth inning and earned his first save of the season by not allowing a hit.

AT THE PLATE
Jorah went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base, while four other Warriors finished with a base hit.

ON THE MOUND
Waldrop won his third game of the season and allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks, while striking out eight batters.  Pawelek worked a 1/3 of an inning before Wetmore did not allow a hit over an inning and 2/3.  Schmidt allowed a baserunner in the ninth but was otherwise was perfect to secure the victory.
