Playing in front of its largest home crowd of the year, the Malone University men's basketball team (9-9, 7-7 GLIAC) never held a lead, falling to the University of Findlay (14-4, 10-4 GLIAC) 84-63 on Saturday afternon.

Findlay opened the game on a 10-2 run, putting the home squad in an immediate hole they never fully recovered from. Malone played the Oilers even the rest of the half and headed into the locker room only trailing 37-30.

However, Findlay used an 11-2 spurt midway through the second half to up the lead to 16 points. Malone answered with one final run to cut the deficit to single digits at 68-59 with 5:15 remaining but Findlay responded with 10 straight points to slam the door on Malone's comeback bid.

Seniors Cory Veldhuizen and Isiah Elliott paved the way for Malone with Veldhuizen recording team-highs of 19 points and nine rebounds and Elliott contributing 16 points and six boards. Senior Che Richardson was the other Pioneer to reach double figures in scoring with 10 points.

Findlay's Greg Kahlig and Alfonso Baity scored 22 and 21 points respectively for Findlay, helping the Oilers to 28-of-50 (56.0%) shooting and 11-of-23 (47.8%) from deep. It was the second consecutive game Malone surrendered more than 10 three-pointers, as the Oilers knocked down 11. Malone finished the contest 23-of-57 (40.4%) on field goal attempts and 9-of-24 (37.5%) from three, winning the rebounding battle over Findlay 34 to 29.

The Pioneers have a quick turnaround as they play their third game in five days on Monday, February 3rd,at Walsh University.
