Bulldog Women's Basketball Secures Share Of GLIAC North Title By Beating The Pride

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad claimed at least a share of its first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Championship with a hard-fought 57-50 triumph over Purdue Northwest on Thursday (Feb. 20) night in Hammond, Ind.

The Bulldogs garnered the win to move to 19-7 overall and 13-5 in the GLIAC as they beat the Pride for the second time this year while holding onto a two-game advantage atop the division with two games left to play in regular-season action.

Ferris State took a five-point halftime lead and then overcame a six-point deficit with 8:30 to play to pull out the win while improving to 6-0 all-time versus Purdue Northwest.

By claiming at least a share of the divisional title, FSU secured its first conference title since 2012 and only the third in program history.

The Bulldogs got a team-high 16 points each from both senior forward Riley Blair and junior guard Adrienne Anderson in the triumph with freshman guard Mallory McCartney adding 12 points in the win. Blair finished with a double-double effort as she also had 10 rebounds for FSU.

Ferris State converted 38% of its field goals and the Bulldogs sank 14-of-21 (66.7%) free throws while going five-of-16 (31.3%) from three-point range.

Meanwhile, the Pride shot 36.5% overall and went six-of-20 (30%) from three-point land along with a perfect six-of-six (100%) at the line.

The Bulldogs outscored the Pride 22-16 inside the paint and 10-4 in second chance production as FSU owned a 38-30 rebouding margin with 11 offensive caroms overall.

FSU also held a 10-0 margin in fast break production for the night.

Ferris State will visit Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday (Feb. 22) for a 2 p.m. (ET) GLIAC encounter in Kenosha, Wis. The Rangers trail FSU by two games with two games remaining in the regular-season entering the contest.

With the win on Thursday night, the Bulldogs also secured a quarterfinal-round home game for the GLIAC Tournament, which begins on Tuesday, March 3.
