Cardinals and Dragons play to 0-0 draw in Friday action

UNIVERSITY CENTER -- Hosting Tiffin University in a tough, physical regional match, the SVSU Men's Soccer team played to a 0-0 draw with the Dragons on Friday (Sep. 13) at Saginaw Valley's Braddock Field.

The Cardinals out-shot the Dragons 24-7 in the match and put seven shots on goal but they weren't able to find the back of the net and the teams played to the 0-0 final.

SVSU posted a narrow 7-5 edge in shots for the first 45 minutes and had four corner kicks compared to one for Tiffin.

For the second half, the Cards racked-up 12 shots in the frame whlie allowing just two defensively to Tiffin.

The match went into overtime scoreless and remained that way throughout both extra sessions, as SV out-shot the Dragons 5-0 in those periods overall.

It was not enough, however, as neither team found the back of the net and the game's final score stood at 0-0.

Inside the Boxscore

  • Mason Maziasz (1-0-1) helped lead the defense in posting a clean sheet, stopping both shots on goal he faced in his 110 minutes between the posts.
  • Brady Walker had a team-high five shots and three shots on goal for SVSU.
  • Connor Rutz added four shots while Alex Gloshen posted three.
  • The Cardinals ended up with a decisive 12-1 advantage in corner kicks for the match as well.

From Head Coach Louis Barrow

"The lads were fantastic today; hardworking, industrious and intelligent. Our game plan came to fruition and the lads executed in fantastically. We just lacked a little composure and quality in and around the box. Things just don't seem to be falling for us when it comes to scoring goals but we have a great set of boys and we will fix that. The lads are all pulling in the same direction, which is the most important thing."
