Top-Seed Ferris State Cruises Past Davenport To Reach GLIAC Tourney Finals

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team moved into the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Championship match as the Bulldogs dominated Davenport in a 4-0 semifinal triumph on Saturday (April 22) in Midland.

Ferris State posted wins at one and three doubles to claim the first point of the match and proceeded to win the first three completed singles flights en route to the win. FSU got wins in singles action at one, five and six to finish off the Panthers.

With the win, the Bulldogs will now face Wayne State in a showdown for the league tournament title on Sunday (April 23) morning in Midland. Match time is set for 10 a.m. (ET).

"Davenport really brought the energy and some high level tennis today," said FSU head coach Mark Doren. "Our guys really had to focus and step up their games to get the win.

"But, it was important to get off the court quickly to be well-rested for the big matchup against Wayne State tomorrow," he added.

The Bulldogs, who are the top seed in the tournament and received a first-round bye, claimed the league's regular-season championship and narrowly beat Wayne State 4-3 in conference regular-season play this year. WSU is the two seed in the tournament.

Ferris State improved to 15-3 overall this year with the semifinal win and the Bulldogs are currently ranked second in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Rankings.
