Ferris State Rolls To Big Home Win Over Wayne State

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad began its final regular-season homestead with a decisive 85-58 win over Wayne State on Thursday (Feb. 9) night at Jim Wink Arena, staying within a game of the top in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) standings.

The Bulldogs built a 42-31 lead at halftime and jumped the lead to as many as 28 points in garnering the win. FSU outscored Wayne State 43-27 in the final half.

Sophomore guard Ethan Erickson caught fire from the outside, sinking six three's in the game to finish with a game-high 20 points. Solomon Oraegbu added 19 points with Ben Davidson meeting 10 points in the triumph.

The Bulldogs dominated the glass, owning a commanding 49-30 rebounding edge while pulling down 12 offensive boards. Dolapo Olayinka led FSU with 12 boards in the contest and Mykel Bingham chipped in seven. Ferris State held a 14-4 margin in second chance scoring.

Ferris State had a balanced effort overall as nine of the 10 players who saw action scored. Additionally, FSU dished out 24 assists and all 10 Bulldog players finished with at least one assist in the game.

The Bulldogs finished shooting 49.3% from the floor and FSU went eight-of-23 (34.8%) from long range in addition to 11-of-15 (73.3%) at the free throw line.

Defensively, FSU held the Warriors to only 37.3% shooting with Wayne State making six-of-15 (40%) three's and eight-of-18 (44.4%) free throws.

Ray Williams led Wayne State with 18 points and both Carmelo Harris and Kaimen Lennox chipped in 12 points each.

Ferris State owned a 44-22 advantage in points scored inside the paint and FSU's bench tallied 40 points to only four for the Wayne State reserves.

With the win, Ferris State is now 19-6 overall and 10-4 in the GLIAC. The Bulldogs are one win shy of notching the program's eighth 20-win season in the last nine years.

The Bulldogs will host Saginaw Valley State in their final regular-season home game on Saturday (Feb. 11) with tipoff set for 3 p.m. (ET). Fans are encouraged to wear red as part of a "Red Out" effort in support of women's heart health.
