Ferris State Earns Big GLIAC Road Victory At Saginaw Valley State To Open Weekend

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad opened up its weekend road trip with a hard-fought 79-72 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) win at Saginaw Valley State on Thursday (Jan. 19) night in University Center, Mich.

The Bulldogs jumped in front early and built a 19-point lead early in the second half before holding off SVSU down the stretch to move to 14-5 overall this year. FSU also improved to 5-3 in the GLIAC, moving a back behind the league leaders following the tilt.

Five Bulldogs reached double-figure scoring in the win with sophomore Solomon Oraegbu totaling a team-high 17 points in the victory. Mykel Bingham added 12 points and the Bulldogs also got 11 points from Ben Davidson and Jimmy Scholler along with 10 off the bench from Ethan Erickson, who returned to the lineup after missing the past two games.

Ferris State shot 45.2% overall and limited SVSU to 42.9% shooting in the game. FSU also finished nine-of-26 (34.6%) beyond the three-point arc and 14-of-19 (73.7%) at the free throw line.

The Bulldogs held a 39-37 rebounding margin and came up with 14 offensive caroms, leading to a 19-16 edge in second chance scoring. The Bulldogs also outscored SVSU 19-7 on the break and got 21 points off the bench compared to only six for the hosts.

The Cardinals, who fell to 9-9 overall and 4-4 n the GLIAC, were led by Chansey Willis, Jr., with 18 points. Freddie McIntosh added 17 points and Kevonne Taylor totaled 16 points.

Ferris State will visit Wayne State on Saturday (Jan. 21) for a 3 p.m. (ET) league matchup in Detroit.
