Ferris State Stages Furious Comeback To Stay Perfect In The GLIAC

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad rallied back to notch its fourth consecutive victory and stay unbeaten in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play with a 3-2 triumph over Wayne State on Sunday (Sept. 11) in Detroit.

The Bulldogs dropped the first two sets by scores of 25-18 and 26-24 to the Warriors, but ultimately rallied back for a 25-14 triumph in the third and a 26-24 victory in the fourth.

In the deciding fifth frame, the Bulldog seized control early in a 15-11 decision.

The win lifted Ferris State to 4-6 overall and 2-0 in the GLIAC while WSU dropped to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in league action.

The Bulldogs got a team-high 16 kills from Syann Fairfield and Olivia Henneman-Dallape to go with 15 by Claire Nowicki and 10 courtesy of Emma Bleecher.

Ferris State hit .211 for the contest and produced a total of 73 digs along with 61 assists, 13 aces and 13 service mistakes.

Defensively, both Bleecher and libero Leah Bylut each totaled 17 digs with setter Kaylee Maat notching 12 to go with 56 assists. Nowicki also had 10 digs.

Wayne State was led by Lauren VanderWal and Kayla Giroux, who finished with 14 and 13 kills, respectively. Maddy Benoit had a match-high 20 digs and Kamryn Duffield notched 34 assists, but the Warriors were limited to a .167 attack percentage.

The Bulldogs will travel to Michigan's Upper Peninsula next weekend to face Michigan Tech on Friday (Sept. 16) at 5 p.m. (ET) in Houghton followed by a match at Northern Michigan on Saturday (Sept. 17) starting at 3 p.m. (ET) in Marquette.
